Astronomers have successfully traced the origins of the latest interstellar comet visiting our solar system to a cold, isolated corner of the Milky Way galaxy.

Using advanced spectroscopic analysis and trajectory modeling, researchers determined the comet designated ATLAS originated from a distant stellar neighborhood characterized by low metallicity and minimal stellar density.

The findings provide rare insights into planetary formation processes in different galactic environments and offer clues about the diversity of planetary systems throughout the cosmos.

The comet composition differs markedly from solar system comets, suggesting distinct formation conditions and chemical histories in its home region.
