BEIJING, Aug. 20 — Unitree Robotics, widely dubbed China’s “first pure-play humanoid robot stock,” made its highly anticipated debut on the A-share market on August 19, drawing massive attention from global investors and industry observers.
The very next day, Wang Xingxing, founder and chairman of Unitree, rushed to the 2026 World Robot Conference underway in Beijing’s Yizhuang district to deliver the keynote address at the main forum. His presentation, titled “From Exhibition to Product: The Next Decade of the Humanoid Robot Industry,” outlined the company’s evolution and its vision for commercial viability.
A Decade of Development Founded in August 2016, Unitree Robotics is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. Wang reflected on the company’s journey, showcasing flagship products like the Unitree G1 and highlighting recent technological breakthroughs.
“Over the past few years, we’ve been pushing robots into daily life and factory operations,” Wang explained. “This includes partnerships with automotive manufacturers for production line applications, as well as deploying robots in our own facilities for basic task testing. Currently, the majority of our AI teams are focused on solving real-world operational challenges in home and factory settings.”
The Bottleneck: Generalization in Embodied AI When will humanoid robots truly enter everyday life? According to Wang, the biggest challenge facing the global humanoid robot industry today is the insufficient generalization capability of embodied AI.
“In fixed scenarios, with sufficient data collection and training, AI models can achieve task success rates close to 100%,” Wang noted. “However, once the objects or environment change, the success rate drops dramatically.”
Wang identified the critical tipping point for the industry: when users can bring a robot to any unfamiliar environment and complete approximately 80% of daily tasks using only voice or text commands. He believes this milestone could arrive in as little as two to three years, or at most five to ten years.
Accelerating Evolution “Given the current explosion in AI technology and the unprecedented global attention, the evolution speed of robots is increasing dramatically,” Wang stated. “Future development may exceed current estimates. The industry stands at a new starting point.”
The forum attracted massive attendance, with organizers adding extra seats and attendees standing in the aisles even after the event began. Wang was the first speaker of the day, underscoring Unitree’s prominence in the field.
As China’s robotics sector continues to gain momentum, Unitree’s IPO represents a significant milestone in bringing humanoid robots from laboratory prototypes to commercial scale.
